There is no shortage of people wanting to boost their income, either by making more in their current job or by starting a side hustle or side gig. Any internet search will tell you there are many ways to do this, but it can be hard to work out which are a good fit for you and which are a complete waste of time and money.
Looking around can take a while, yet there are some things out there that you might not have considered before, especially if you think that all side hustles involve selling stuff to people or having a perfect Instagram profile. You will quickly find though, that side hustles can take all shapes and sizes, and you don’t have to be an expert in anything to get started.
Become an affiliate
You might think this involves selling, but it won’t be you doing it. What you’ll need here is an online platform of some kind, like a website, and a passing interest in something other people find useful. You then fill your site with content people want to read and surround it with advertising.
This can just be plain Google Ads via the AdSense program or with banner ads of products related to your content. For instance, if you write about fishing, having ads for fishing supplies will be congruent and perfect for your target market. Companies pay commissions for any sales made using your unique link, and while they might not be huge, this is all happening passively when they visit the site and click on something that piques their interest.
Shipping work
If this isn’t your thing, but you do have a car or van, then you can earn money as a delivery driver. Companies like Shiply have job boards displaying available work. This includes one-off ad-hoc jobs, which might involve moving something that somebody has bought from a well-known auction site.
You can do shipping work like this around any other work you may have, so you could undertake work on evenings and weekends. You might even find this works well for customers as well since they are more likely to be in for collections and deliveries anyway, as they are ordinarily out at work all day.
Freelance writing or graphics work
If you don’t want to mess with millions of other people on Fiverr or one of the other freelancing sites, the key here is to find a good agency that sends you to work. This doesn’t have to be every day, but the better agencies will be in demand themselves and can thus offer you regular writing or graphics work without you having to do any marketing of your services or chasing people for payment.
You might think the rates are a bit low at first, but when you realize that the agency is doing all of the legwork for you and all you have to do is sit there and complete work according to their brief, you’ll soon see the value. This is a very handy way to boost your income and can become an important part of the puzzle that replaces your standard 9-5.
